Chocolate Covered Energy Balls

I love making energy balls as they are quick, simple and yummy! This one method can lead to many flavours and lead you getting creative in the Kitchen! However as this recipe segment is new to my blog, I am starting off with Chocolate Covered Energy Balls.

Why Dates?

  • They make an wonderful base ingredient! once you have the mixture you can add additional ingredients and be creative
  • Dates are a great source of fibre
  • Studies have shown increasing consumption of dates can improve your digestion (high fibre is linked to this)
  • They are a good source of potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus and zinc

Ingredients (makes 8 balls)

  • 8 medjool dates (can use normal dates)
  • 50g of ground almonds
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 25g cacao powder (can also use coco powder)


  1. Make sure all stones are removed from dates and cut into small pieces
  2. boil some water and soak the dates for 1 hour
  3.  Drain the dates and use a fork or spoon to smooth together
  4. Transfer the dates into a bowl and add the ground almonds and honey
  5. Then add the cacao powder and mix well
  6. Roll the mixture into 8 balls and leave in the fridge for 1 hour
